Tooth Sensitivity Study

ADA Forsyth Institute Center for Clinical and Translational Research is conducting a research study on tooth sensitivity. Read the information below to see if this study pertains to you.

  • Do you feel pain or discomfort after a bite of ice cream or a spoonful of hot soup?

If yes, you may have “dentin hypersensitivity” (tooth sensitivity)

We are inviting volunteers (at least 18 years of age) with dentin hypersensitivity (tooth sensitivity) to participate in a 8-week dental study to test a new (investigational) product in relieving pain and discomfort.

If you are interested, please call or email for more information:

Screening visit

The study requires a screening visit to determine if you qualify.

Where: The Forsyth Institute Center for Clinical and Translational Research, 245 First Street, 17th Floor, Cambridge MA (Enter on 1 Athenaeum St.)

What will happen at the study screening visit?

We will:

  • Review your medical and dental history
  • Examine your teeth, gums, and mouth
  • Test your teeth that are sensitive to determine the level of sensitivity to cold

Once you qualify and agree to participate in the study, you will either:

  • Be treated with the study drug or with the placebo (water) applied to your teeth surfaces.
  • Have 4 separate applications over 2 weeks and followed for 6 weeks with assessments.

There will be a total of 7 study visits after the screening visit.

A total of $800 will be given to cover your transportation costs and compensate you for your time if you complete the study.
